Teacher Leadership
The Ames Community School District provides several programs to support our staff and educators aimed to reduce and/or remove the barriers to academic achievement and increase students’ success.
Teacher Quality
Teacher Quality (TQ) represents funds available to the school district to promote teacher growth and development, a foundation for improving children’s educational outcomes. Teacher Quality represents Iowa’s efforts for attracting, supporting and retaining a diverse workforce of teachers to develop greater mastery and leadership in their classrooms.
Teacher Leadership
Ames Community School District received a grant to launch its teacher leadership plan through Iowa’s Teacher Leadership and Compensation System. The system is designed to tap into the expertise of top teachers to improve classroom instruction, raise student achievement, attract and retain more effective teachers, and reward teachers for extra responsibilities. Ames has long been ahead of the state’s education reform in providing instruction that meets students’ individual needs and in creating ways for teachers to collaborate.
Instructional Coach
Instructional Coaches play an essential role in our schools, delivering highly differentiated supports to teachers in each building. Instructional Coaches not only support teachers in their teaching practices, but support the building principal with key initiatives and professional development. They provide coaching to support teachers, promote collaboration and partnerships, and build a welcoming school culture.
Mentor Teachers
Mentor Teachers are highly skilled educators with a passion and drive to improve the instructional quality of their schools. By extending their impact as teachers and lead learners in the school community, they promote local effective instructional practices beneficial for diverse groups of students.
