Erin Miller obtained her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and her master’s degree in Educational Administration. She has an additional master’s degree in English from the University of Northern Iowa.

Previously, Miller was an Associate Principal at Ames Middle School, where she led professional development for staff around various topics, including professional learning communities (PLC), critical consciousness, assessments, and technology integration. In addition, she actively supports teachers, learning leads, and educational associates in order to advance student learning. Additionally, she supervised building special education services that include progress monitoring and individualized education plan (IEP) compliance.

Before her role at Ames Middle School, Miller served the Ames District for seven years as both a teacher at Ames High School and a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA). In that role, she led curriculum reviews for PK-12 teachers and managed the curriculum review cycle. In 2018-2019, Miller served as Director of Teaching and Learning for the Webster City Community School District. She collaboratively planned and implemented instructional practices and curriculum for PK-12 teachers, managed the curriculum review cycle, as well as designed and delivered learning experiences for district administrative team in leadership, multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), and equity. She also coordinated district assessments, including ISASP and FAST.

Miller is a highly engaged professional who has participated in various professional development opportunities over her career. She was a past president of the Iowa Council of Teachers of English and a long-time member of the National Council of Teachers of English, having presented at their conference multiple times. In 2017, she was awarded the Emerging Leader Award from NCTE’s Conference on English Leadership.
