Seal of Biliteracy

The State of Iowa adopted the Seal of Biliteracy to officially recognize high school graduates who are literate in more than one language. Ames High School offers the Seal of Biliteracy to graduating seniors who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one other language through approved assessments. Students must be able to read, write, listen, and speak in the language in which they test.

During the years the Seal of Biliteracy has existed in Iowa, Ames High has had graduates earn the seal in 9 different languages: Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Portuguese, and Chinese.

Ames High School provides an opportunity for students to take the STAMP assessment twice annually (fall and spring). Students may also sign up for AP Language tests in the spring to qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy.
