Celebrity Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph Brings Caribbean Flavors to Ames Schools

Ames, IA — Students of Ames Middle School and Ames High School are in for an exciting culinary adventure with celebrity chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph visiting on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, as they celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a special experience. The Austin-based chef, known for his bold flavors and creative cooking style, will be joining forces with Chartwells K12 to bring a taste of the Caribbean to Ames as part of the Global Eats program.

Chef Bristol-Joseph will meet with the students to talk about nutrition and the connection in cultures. The chef will lead a cooking demo and serve up delicious Caribbean dishes like Caribbean jerk chicken, rice arroz con maiz, and Caribbean style cheesy potatoes. All of which are part of a special Caribbean themed menu created in honor of our collaboration with Chartwells K12.

The Global Eats program is designed by food service partner, Cartwells, to introduce students to new cultural cuisines from all around the world. The Global Eats program is about allowing our students the opportunity to experience and learn about food from different cultures while also influencing and promoting healthier, more balanced eating habits.
