Ames CSD Partners with Hazel Health to Enhance Student Wellness

The Ames Community School District is pleased to announce a new partnership with Hazel Health, a leading provider of telehealth services in K-12 schools, aimed at improving health and wellness access for students and families. This collaboration reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to removing barriers to learning by providing students with easily accessible mental health care options.

Through the agreement with Hazel Health, Ames students will have access to telehealth mental health services even during school hours, allowing them to address a range of needs without the disruption of leaving school. Hazel offers bilingual therapy in over 19 languages, ensuring all students can connect with a licensed therapist who understands their culture and language.

In therapy, students will gain essential tools to succeed in school and in life, such as:

  • Improving communication
  • Building confidence
  • Enhancing coping skills
  • Fostering healthy relationships

All students—regardless of immigration status—can access virtual therapy at no cost to families. School staff and legal guardians can refer students to therapy.

It’s easy to get started online with Hazel Health.

“This partnership is a significant step forward in supporting the holistic needs of our students,” said Deani Thomas, Director of Special Education and chair of the Mental Health Committee in the Ames Community School District. “By providing accessible mental health resources right here in our schools, we can help our students feel well and be present in class, which in turn promotes better learning outcomes and a stronger school community.”

Key benefits for Ames CSD families include:

  • Convenient, Accessible Care: Students can access mental health support on campus, minimizing time away from school and allowing parents the convenience of knowing care is close by.
  • Immediate Support for Mental Health: Hazel Health’s mental health services offer timely support, addressing challenges students may face, including anxiety, stress, and other issues that impact well-being.
  • Seamless Coordination: Hazel Health works closely with the district to ensure that services are seamlessly integrated with each student’s educational experience while maintaining strict privacy protocols.

The district will begin implementing the service on January 14, 2025, starting with a focus on awareness for families and staff, ensuring that they understand how to use the resources and are familiar with the options available.
