Ames High Headed to International Science and Engineering Fair

⁤The State Science & Technology Fair of Iowa (SSTFI) offers students from grades 6 to 12 a unique opportunity to showcase their research and engage with professionals in the field. ⁤⁤As an affiliate of the prestigious Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, the SSTFI serves as a launchpad for students to take their projects to the global stage. ⁤

⁤At the 2024 SSTFI, held on April 4 and 5 at Hilton Coliseum, students from Ames High School showcased Ames High excellence with exceptional projects and achievements. ⁤⁤Avyay Balaji and Ananya Balaji, won 1st place in their category and earned the title of Reserve Champion. ⁤⁤The duo is set to represent our school and the state of Iowa at the upcoming International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, California. ⁤

⁤Avyay and Ananya’s project, titled A Mechanistic Analysis of Intraneuronal Amyloid Beta Aggregation Caused by Cellular Dysfunction and Oxidative Stress in Alzheimer’s, promises to captivate audiences and experts alike. ⁤⁤Their investigation into the intricacies of Alzheimer’s disease sheds light on potential pathways for therapeutic intervention and underscores the importance of understanding neurodegenerative disorders. ⁤

⁤Joining Avyay and Ananya in the ranks of recognition are their peers Laura Chen, Timothy Lee, Vienna Rossmanith, and Adam Zhu. ⁤⁤Laura received an Honorable Mention in her category, while Timothy secured 3rd place.
