2023-24 Student School Board Representatives
The Ames Community School District welcomes two student representatives to the school board, Aneesh Shrotriya and Lauren Smith. Shrotriya and Smith, both seniors at Ames High School, join the board after being selected through an application process. They were introduced and welcomed at the September 11, 2023 board meeting.
“I’m most excited to learn about how our school district is run,” said Shrotriya, “and to bring my and my fellow students’ concerns to the board.”
“I am excited to improve my leadership skills and give students in the district representation,” adds Smith.
Shrotriya is involved with Marching Band, Debate, and Quiz Bowl at Ames High. Smith is the co-leader of Ames High Young Democrats and participates in Key Club and HEROS at Ames High. She has also played basketball through high school and was a team captain last season.
When asked about a favorite tradition at Ames High School, Smith said, “I love the tradition of academic excellence at Ames High.”
Both she and Shrotriya agree that another favored tradition is the band playing Cowbell at football games.
Smith plans to work toward an EMT certification this spring, and both students have plans to attend college after graduating from Ames High. Shrotriya and Smith’s terms of office are from the first regular Board meeting in September to the last regular Board meeting in May.
