RTL Update – Decision-Making Metrics / Food Service for Virtual Students

Decision-Making Metrics:

The decision-making metrics to determine the appropriate delivery model was presented to the school board last night. The development of these metrics was done in collaboration with Mary Greeley Medical Center, Story County Public Health, and Story County Emergency Management. The metrics look at community positivity rates and building absence rate and will be utilized after the phased-in hybrid start of school in the month of September. The entire document can be found on our website.

Food Service Information for Virtual Learning Students

The Ames School District will offer breakfast and lunch to all students who are enrolled full-time (not homeschooled) on days when they are in virtual learning either 100% or in the hybrid model. We have posted a PDF of food service information for the 2020-2021 school year for both on-site and virtual learning on our website. If you would like your student(s) to receive meals while in virtual learning, please fill out the Google form below. You will need to fill out a form for each student.

You can pick up meals at any of the elementary schools or the middle school (this does not have to be your student’s school of attendance). We are not offering meals at the high school because of construction. If you have students at different levels, you can pick up all the meals at one site. Because the elementary and secondary meals are different, we need an approximate number of meals to be picked up at each site.

We ask that you fill out the form no later than August 28th. We appreciate your patience during this unique school year.

ACSD Virtual Learner Meal Request Form

Confirmation Email Regarding Online Request

Yesterday, we started sending confirmation emails to those who requested 100% online instruction. We are continuing that process today. If you do not receive an email by Wednesday, but have filled out the form, or if you prefer to change your request and start the school year on-site, please email Erin Meek (erin.meek@ames.k12.ia.us). All requests are approved. As a reminder, the deadline to request online instruction to start the school year is this Friday, August 21. Once the school year begins, you can request to change delivery models (from online to on-site and vice versa). Initial guidance on that structure, as well as the online request form, is available on our website.

Blast Back to School Correction

In yesterday’s communication, we noted the incorrect time for the Blast Back to School backpack pick up event. It is from 12 – 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19 at Ames Middle School. Also, if you are a walker or bus rider, please continue to the back of the school to the bus drop off.
