Shout out to the incredible students of SHEPH (Students Helping to Eliminate Poverty and Hunger) who are making a real impact in our community! They are frequent volunteers with Food at First, helping to provide meals to those in need right here in Ames.
These students, led by Ames High science teacher Collin Reichert, are tackling food insecurity head-on—proving that young people’s voices, values, and actions matter in today’s world. Through the George Washington Carver Future Hunger Fighters Program, Iowa high schoolers will take their efforts even further by writing essays on local hunger challenges and proposing solutions. Winning teams will receive funding to turn their ideas into action!
